SUCCESSFUL TESTING OF HA1044 SERIES COCKPIT DOOR DECOMPRESSION LATCHES

Placentia, California U.S.A…Hartwell Corporation, a Division of McKechnie Aerospace, announces the completion of successful testing of its HA1044 series cockpit door decompression latches designed to support new FAA certified DC-9 and MD-80 series bi-fold doors manufactured by C&D Aerospace (Huntington Beach, CA).

The latch has passed all required FAA door testing requirements which include numerous 300-joule impacts, ballistics and decompression events.  The latch, which secures the cockpit from unauthorized entry, including both impact and small arms fire, is also designed to release during a cockpit decompression event at 0.5 p.s.i.

Hartwell has designed multiple versions of these cockpit door security latches. Several designs feature a pneumatically activated system, which, with a reservoir, eliminates the need for venting into the cabin.  This includes the previously certified HA1013 series latch used on Boeing 737 and 757 aircraft. Another design features a solenoid-activated system available for wide-body applications.  The solenoid version can be made to support either a single or multiple-point system.

For over 60 years, the Hartwell Corporation, a division of McKechnie Aerospace, has been a leader in the design and manufacture of aerospace latching systems, hinges, and composite struts. McKechnie Aerospace, is comprised of a group of Solutioneering companies dedicated to the design, manufacture and distribution of mechanical and electromechanical products for the aerospace industry.
