Waterproof pin & rotary panel latches
The customer came to Hartwell, a member of the McKechnie Aerospace Structures Group, to explore the feasibility of designing
and manufacturing a replacement latch that fit the original access door form factors yet would create a completely waterproof seal
and thereby prevent water damage to both cargo and aircraft.

Extra low profile xlp latching system
Hartwell provided a lightweight, low-profile solution with alignment and shear pins incorporated into the housing to carry shear loads and align the two halves of the engine nacelle. The result was Hartwell’s patented Extra-Low Profile XLP™ system.

|
Dual pin & hook, full remote latching system
Through the process of Solutioneering and working closely with the customer, Hartwell’s engineering team designed a fully remote three-point latch system that operates from a single handle. The system’s design also includes additional safety features that insure proper operation with the added convenience of being functioned by one mechanic instead of two.

Crew escape hatch & handle
The customer was developing a state-of-the-art crew escape door for the Boeing 787. The escape hatch, an inward
opening plug-type pressure-only door constructed from monolithic high speed machined aluminum with discrete
stops, is intended as an emergency exit for the flight crew and is accessed from both inside and outside the airplane.
