McKECHNIE AEROSPACE ELECTROMECHANICAL GROUP DELIVERS FIRST PRODUCTION UNITS TO ARGO TECH

New Lightweight, Integrated Brushless DC Motor and Controller is a Key Component of Argo Tech’s Next-generation Fuel Management System

FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW, JULY 19th, 2004… Electromech Technologies, a member of the McKechnie Aerospace Electromechanical Group, announced today that it has delivered successful prototypes and begun shipping production units of its advanced Brushless DC motor to Argo Tech Airframe Division.

The contract naming the company as a supplier of the new Brushless DC motors to Argo Tech was signed earlier this year and because of Electromech’s rapid prototyping capability the company was able to deliver the first prototypes in less than 12 weeks. Successful testing of two prototypes is now complete and eight production units have been shipped for use in systems. Full production ramp-up is scheduled for late 2005. According to Ed Demas, Vice President Sales of Electromech, “This is an exciting partnership, Argo Tech is widely recognized as a premier supplier of fuel management equipment and systems and we’re proud to be part of what differentiates them from the competition”.

The brushless DC motor, which drives the engine boost pump in Argo Tech’s new technology Fuel Management System, is fuel cooled and integrates the motor with its controller. Because of the integrated packaging, the combined motor and controller weighs less than 3 pounds. In addition, Electromech’s wet motor brushless design eliminates the shaft seal and provides a high reliability product for the aircraft operator.

The McKechnie Aerospace Electromechanical Group designs, manufactures, and services flight-control linear and rotary actuators and systems, landing gear actuators, blowers, motors, integrated electro-mechanical assemblies and PMA parts. As part of McKechnie Aerospace, the Electromechanical Group —consisting of heritage companies Electromech, Encore, and Welco — provide today’s aircraft OEMs and operators with integrated, innovative solutions and reduced cost of operation through a process the company calls Solutioneering.
