McKECHNIE AEROSPACE DELIVERS FIRST PRODUCTION LINEAR BALL SCREW ACTUATORS TO AEROSPACE FILTRATION SYSTEMS FOR THE BELL 407 HELICOPTER

Electromechanical Group Member Electromech’s rapid response capability and modular approach transition from initial discussions to product supply in less than 12 weeks

FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW, JULY 19th, 2004… Electromech, a member of the McKechnie Aerospace Electromechanical Group, announced that it has been awarded and shipped initial quantities of a production lightweight Linear Ball Screw Actuator developed for Aerospace Filtration Systems (AFS) for use in their industry leading rotorcraft inlet barrier filtration systems.

The actuator, which integrates position sensing and control electronics, was developed specifically to AFS specification from Electromech’s family of lightweight, compact modular design ball screw actuators available in single motor, dual motor, single output ram or dual ram configurations. Variants of this modular family are on many of today’s turboprop and turbo fan powered business aircraft. Because of the high degree of modularity, Electromech was able to fast-track development and go to production in under three months.

The Inlet Barrier System uses high separation filter material achieving 99+% efficiency with AC fine and AC coarse sand at rated engine airflow. No bleed air extraction is required increasing aircraft climb performance and forward airspeed. The AFS system is FAA approved for all weather and is now available under FAA STC SR09368RC.

AFS is the industry leader in the design, development and manufacture of high-performance engine IBF systems for commercial and military propulsion systems. AFS has delivered more than 550 systems and over 3,500 filters to military and commercial customers worldwide. Patented AFS filtration systems are now in use and have been very effective on U.S. Army OH-58D and AH/MH-6J helicopters flying in Iraq, accumulating over 200,000 erosion-free flight hours.

The McKechnie Aerospace Electromechanical Group designs, manufactures, and services flight-control linear and rotary actuators and systems, landing gear actuators, blowers, motors, integrated electro-mechanical assemblies and PMA parts. As part of McKechnie Aerospace, the Electromechanical Group —consisting of heritage companies Electromech, Encore, and Welco — provide today’s aircraft OEMs and operators with integrated, innovative solutions and reduced cost of operation through a process the company calls Solutioneering.
